New Apartment, Baby!

So I just gave the deposit and first month's rent on an apartment. It's in the same apartment complex where I'm living now. So, the story goes like this. A one bedroom apartment was vacated last month. It's on the second floor. I took a look at it, and expressed interest for it to the manager. However, there were various things that I didn't like about it: first, that it was on the second floor; also, it didn't have a good view, and thirdly, that it had a west-looking window (which implies that it gets more sun in the afternoons -a boon in winter, but not very good the rest of the year). Then another "down-side" was added. It turns out that it's above this Crazy Lady's apartment. I don't know who she is, but she seems to be those really sensitive persons who don't tolerate any noise. The other day I heard her scream to someone "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BUILDING". I can only speculate as to whom she was screaming at, but I definitively don't need that sort of hassle.

So it turns out that a second apartment was vacated a few weeks ago. That apartment is on the lower floor, which is a positive. It has a view of the patio, which is a positive, and it doesn't have west or south-facing windows which is a positive too! However, it was originally a two-bedroom, which is not what I was looking for. Nonetheless, the manager's apartment is right next door and he told me that he was planning to suggest to the building's owner to add one of the bedroom's to his own apartment, and convert the two-bedroom to a one bedroom. So I told him that I was NOT interested in the second floor apartment, but would be very interested in the lower-floor one, on condition that it be a one bedroom. So after some weeks of waiting, I finally got the call. The bedroom move would occur, and if I was still interested. I certainly was, and so we sealed the deal.

The apartment is in a gated complex with a covered parking space. That means that security is better than at other apartments, as well as having my car inside, under cover, and not in the street as before. I expect to have the keys next Saturday. I don't have any furniture yet, but I hear IKEA beckoning!
